This coffee grows high in Peru's Andes, on steep mountain slopes between 1,200 and 1,600 metres above sea level. At this altitude the cherries ripen slowly, building the kind of gentle sweetness and clean, rounded character that makes Peruvian coffee so easy to love.
Ripe cherries are picked between March and September, then pulped, fermented and washed before drying in the mountain sun, often on raised beds or in purpose-built drying sheds. The coffee is then decaffeinated using the Mountain Water method: nothing but water from Pico de Orizaba, Mexico's highest mountain, removing up to 99% of the caffeine without a single chemical.
In the cup, it's pure comfort baking. Toasty pecan leads the way, followed by soft vanilla sponge sweetness and a bright, zesty lift of lemon icing on the finish. Smooth, sweet and properly moreish, this is decaf that tastes like dessert and drinks like an everyday favourite.
Note on organic*: This coffee is grown organically, however Craft Decaf is not organic certified (it’s mega mega expensive) but nothing is added to the coffee.
