About this coffee

Papua New Guinea's Eastern Highlands is one of the coffee world's best-kept secrets. Sitting between 1,600 and 1,850 metres above sea level, the cool mountain air and rich volcanic soils create ideal conditions for coffees with real clarity and depth. Washed coffees from this region have a character that's entirely their own: balanced, clean, and quietly complex.

This is a community lot, the collective work of many smallholder farmers across the highlands. Only the ripest cherries are hand-picked before being fully washed and carefully sun-dried, locking in a bright, clean flavour profile that holds up beautifully through the decaffeination process. A gentle Sugarcane decaf keeps the natural body and character intact.

The result is a coffee that's both comforting and interesting. Rich chocolate and smooth caramel anchor the cup, while a bright lemon curd note adds freshness and lift. Clean, rounded, and a little hard to put down!

Producer

This lot goes by the name "Sem Manmeri Kopi," meaning People's Coffee in Tok Pisin, the local language of Papua New Guinea. It's an apt name. The coffee is the collective work of many smallholder farmers across the Eastern Highlands, each cultivating Blue Mountain and Bourbon varietals on their high-altitude plots. These producers have refined their craft over generations, selecting only the ripest fruit and sun-drying parchment coffee in the highland air, where the cool, dry climate helps preserve quality from harvest right through to milling.

Perfectly Roasted

We practice omni roasting—a philosophy kind of like finding each coffee bean's one true love in roast form!

This means every bean gets its perfect roasting match to highlight its unique quirks and flavours. Naturally decaffeinated beans, after their caffeine-free makeover, can be a bit sensitive and prone to over-roasting, so we steer clear of going too dark to keep their delightful tastes intact.

Why Decaf?

Gentler on the stomach, better sleep, suitable for pregnant woman, loaded with anti-oxidants and let's be honest, all the great coffee taste with no caffeine crash.

So Why Craft Decaf?

  • Decaffeinated naturally at source which is more sustainable as less miles are travelled
  • We focus solely on decaf and we won't send a bean we haven't tried - your personal decaf experts
  • Direct farmer relationships ensuring your money ends up with our suppliers and not middle-men

Best decaf I’ve had

Best decaf I’ve had by a country mile. Not cheap. Worth it. Difficulty being I went through a whole bag in three days. If I worked from home I’d be a poor man.
